Greater sense of
self-awareness
Kids have the freedom to express themselves in a variety of ways be it writing, calligraphy, drawing, doodling, or coloring. When kids reflect on their actions and emotions, they develop a greater sense of self-awareness. Self-awareness helps manage emotions more effectively, make better decisions, develop positive mindset, better focus and concentration
Gain Perspective / Critical thinking and Problem-solving skills
Kids can spot the patterns and behavior of their emotions and feelings. It will help them understand their emotions, gain perspectives, and learn how to handle difficult situations. It also helps them to learn from their mistakes.
Achieve Goals
When kids write down their goals, it helps them see the different outcomes. It also helps them see where they are currently, what they need to improve, and whether their daily actions align with their goals and the next steps. Research shows that those who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them than those who don’t
Improves mental health
Capture your thoughts or express them in the journal through writing or drawing once you are composed. It can help you gain control of your emotions and improve your mental health
Emotional Intelligence
As kids grow up, they will go through many emotions, journaling acts as an outlet for those feelings. Kids will feel better when they can express their thoughts in a non-judgmental place like a private journal. Also, kids can get more insight into their feelings, which helps them identify their emotions, deal with them, and develop emotional intelligence
Develops Positive Mindset
Writing in a journal can help create the space and distance needed to reflect on what has happened, where you are, and what is ahead when you find it difficult to view the situation objectively. As you write, you may even come up with a solution you hadn’t thought of before.
Also, putting your emotions down on paper can help you release negative thoughts from your mind.
Reduce Stress & Anxiety and Calms Mind
When kids write down their emotions on paper, it helps them release tension and anxiety, giving clarity to the situation. It will also help them understand what is happening in their life and how they can regulate their emotions
Leads to Better Sleep & improves physical health
Physical and mental health have close associations with each other. Journaling brings sound sleep that aids the immune system, and improves self-confidence, and I.Q.
Enhance self-esteem and confidence
Through self-reflection, kids can recognize their strengths and achievements, boosting their self-esteem and confidence.
Improves communication and relationships
By reflecting on their interactions with others, tweens and teens can gain insights into their communication styles and patterns, leading to healthier relationships
Focus, Concentration & Alertness
When drawing, we actively use both sides of our brain - the left for logical thinking and the right for creativity. While drawing, new connections and pathways are built in the brain, which increases our ability to focus and think strategically. Thus, drawing actively engages your brain and makes it more alert.
Enhances Memory
A study from the Journal of Applied Cognitive Psychology found that participants who doodled had 29% more improved recall memory.
Creative & Imaginative
Visual Journaling spikes your logical thinking and creativity, resulting in magnificent ideas. Kids can express their ideas, be it a horn on a monkey or wings on a fish. They will realize the limitless possibilities and hugeness of their imagination.

My son is finally spending some quality time for himself doodling his emotions for the questions in the journal, I am very happy that he is away from the screen even if it's around 25 mins. Worth the buy

I am very satisfied. My 12 yr old is chershing this journal as her secret book, decorating with colors and glitters. She has started to take things slowly rather than rushing them as she used to be, guess the journal works.

It all started with me bugging my 14 year old daughter to write in the journal every night before bed. She had all excuses to skip it, highlight being home work to be completed or preparing for the class tests. Finally she caved in and wrote one liners for the questions in 5 mins, but as days passed, she started to draw the cartoon character present in the journal and started spending more time with the journal. The one line answers were updated, and a few drawings on her own came up. Looks like my daughter is into journaling now.

Initially I was skeptical about this journal as it seemed like a book with only questions, rather than explanations. Wondered how it would benefit my son, who is not into books. The result is opposite, he adores the journal and is fully into doodling and writing in code words. Thanks Just think journals team, looking forward for more journals of this kind

Author
Suganya Kadhirvel
Suganya, an engineer by graduation, has around 20 years of experience in the IT industry. She was co-founder of the online toy shop Pibblu, which later became an IT consulting company. In order to spend more quality time with her kids and family, the consulting company was closed, and she became a freelance e-commerce consultant and developer.
She loved reading, be it books, magazines, or newspapers. Another thing she loved during her school and college days was writing in her personal diary. It made her feel better, but this habit was lost in the later years of her work life. She wanted her kids to write in their journals or diaries to connect with themselves better and be aware of who they are. But an empty book and plain pages were very hard for the kids; instead of helping them, it became a burden for them. And there were constant questions like, "Amma, what should I write?" or "Amma, can I draw or doodle?" Finally, all the journals became rough books.
Writing and drawing help her calm down and heal, and she has benefited from them. She wanted her kids to experience it. Her daughter tells her that her drawings or doodles on a notepad are like those drawn by a 4th grader. But it's not the end result that helps; it's the process that she enjoys, so she doodles.
During summer break, kids loved the activity books, so she thought, "Why not a guided journal?" which has simple questions and lots of free space for kids to write and draw to express themselves. Her husband said, "Why don’t you author a guided journal?" This was how the "101 Self-Reflection Questions for Tweens and Teens" journal was born. Currently, she is authoring this guided journal, hoping to make a difference in kids' lives.
Graphic Designer and Illustrator
Rudy Kumar
Rudy, a creative education designer by degree, is an artist who looks at life from a different perspective. He had learned the basics of art in high school and from Kalakshetra. He believes that the early education of kids defines them and wants kids to have a learner-led education. He is very passionate about music and loves singing. He wants to build a kindergarten with a special emphasis on the creative and performing arts.
He was very instrumental in getting Deepshika to illustrate Tara for the journal questions. He is always very patient in guiding the kids, and he gets the work from them without the kids ever feeling that they are working on it. Drawing helps us express ourselves and calms us down, so he wanted the journal to have space for drawing. Hence the journal, which was first conceived for writing alone, evolved into a writing and drawing journal. He spent a huge amount of time and effort on how to draw avatar parts, as he wanted all kids to try drawing. He has made them simple so that anyone can start to draw. His next-door kid appearance of Tara and simplistic illustrations have elevated the journal to the next level.
Illustrator
Deepshika Vinay
Deepshika is an 8th grader who lives in Chennai with her parents and her little sister. She was attracted to crayons and color pencils from the age of 2, and the cream house walls were an empty canvas for her, and they still are sometimes. From her kindergarten days, all her pictures used to be very bright and colorful, and she would spend long hours or even days coloring a single picture. As she grew up, she started with free-style drawing; her illustrations and perception in the drawings would be simple and catchy. She is self-taught under her dad's guidance.
Her school rough notebooks used to be adorable, and she would readily help her friends with their school drawings. She wants to become a professional tennis player, and when she goes to the AITA tournaments, she never forgets to take her drawing kitty. At times, the paper napkins become her drawing paper when she is in tournaments.
It was during the summer holidays when the guided journal "101 Self-Reflection Questions for Tweens and Teens" was conceptualized. To reduce screen time, she was asked to illustrate Tara by her mom for the journal questions. Soon, Tara began to take the form of an avatar for the journal. All her illustrations were done in her hand-made journal notebook in pencil, and she was very happy with the way Tara had turned out.
